4th of July 2020

Independence Day weekend means neighborhood BBQ’s, exciting firework displays, and fun in the sun spent with loved ones. But your furriest family member needs a little extra attention during the festivities to make sure they stay safe and healthy. Here are 5 quick tips for helping your dog get in on the 4th of July celebrations.

1. Embrace exercise

Before the grill heats up and the festivities get started, give your pup an opportunity to get rid of any pent up energy. A tired dog will be more relaxed and less likely to be spooked by fireworks or overwhelmed by partygoers.

2. Be Prepared

Make sure your pup is wearing an up-to-date ID tag on their collar at all times just in case they wander out of the party and need to be returned home.

3. Celebrate Safely

BBQ’s are a fun way to celebrate the 4th of July Keep, but be sure to keep charcoal and other grill supplies at a safe distance from your curious furry friend. Also, be sure to tell guests not to feed your pup any table food, especially things like corn-on-the-cob, which can be particularly dangerous for delicate doggie stomachs.

4. Set a Serene Scene

If your pup isn’t a fan of loud sounds, be sure to tuck them away indoors well-before the fireworks begin. For added comfort, leave some soothing music playing in whatever room they’re in.

Dogs always love to join in on the festivities whenever they can, but it’s important to be mindful of how you involve them in this 4th of July to ensure fun and safety all around. With a little forethought, your furry friend will have a blast.
